I have been called a nerd. I have been called a geek. Frankly, I agree with both… so whether I am a geeky nerd or a nerdy geek is really the question. However, as a… whatever I am… I have many diverse interests and I am sharing them here with you.
AMUSEMENT/THEME PARKS
Niles Monorail – while this is not about an actual amusement or theme park per se, it is about a monorail… which is a common attraction at many amusement and theme parks. What makes this one special is that it is not at a park, but rather in the backyard of a regular guy… Kim Pederson.
Oaks Amusement Park – This small and venerable little trolley park is located in Portland, Oregon and was opened in 1905 by the Oregon Water Power and Railway Company. While many parks have come and gone through past century or so, Oaks has survived and even thrived in its own unique and charming style.
Yesterland – A webpage devoted to the Disneyland of yesteryear. There are tons of old photos and text about old attractions and just a general feel of nostalgia about the happiest place on Earth back when it was a lot more accessible to the masses.
GAMES
The (New) Official Minecraft Wiki – If there is anything you want to know about vanilla Minecraft, you will almost certainly find it here. I marked this as the new wiki because this is the second iteration of the Official Minecraft Wiki. The first iteration was on Gamepedia which was acquired by and rolled into Fandom… and over the years since then, the quality of the experience was overwhelmed by ads and poor design… so much so that the Minecraft community eventually migrated the entire wiki to its new home… but now there is some confusion for folks looking for the real official wiki. This link leads you right to it.
SCIENCE FICTION
The Starfleet Museum – If you are a Star Trek fan (i.e. a Trekker), then you might get a kick out of this. In the long years of Star Trek before they started making prequel series, there was a large gap in the early Star Trek canon timeline and Masao Okazaki stepped in and filled the gap… and the results are spectacular, thought-provoking, and in my opinion… generally superior to the official canon material that eventually came out through the various prequel series.
